India is a beautiful country with beautiful people. It is home to one of the biggest cultural diversity in the world. You may have come across bizarre Indian customs and traditions on the internet. So don’t worry I am not here to bore you with the same stuff.

Today’s List is quite interesting. Indians may have been famous worldwide in the field of medicine, engineering, management, politics, art, etc. but Indians also hold the record for erratic personalities and habits.

Here are 10 Indians who stood out when it came to satisfying their hunger. These people went to extremes. Normal food did not satiate their hunger. When the world was busy obsessing over veganism, criticizing meat consumption, and promoting a vegetarian diet, these 10 people were busy satisfying their palates with delicacies that much more than something to frown upon.

1. Fresh bricks out of the oven.

· Meet Mr. Pakkirappa Hunagundi, a 34-year-old man from the state of Karnataka in India, who loves to eat bricks and mud.

· Since the age of 10 years Hunagundi has been biting into walls and construction debris and satisfying his weird taste buds.

2. A Rolling Stone gathers no moss.

· Well, at least moss is edible, though not good to taste. But Mr. Ramdas, a 78-year-old man from a small village in the state of Maharashtra, has been rolling the stones down to his gut.

· Reports suggest that Ramdas had severe stomach aches in the past and was advised by a wise old woman to eat stones to get relief. Voila! It worked wonders for Ramdas.

· Ramdas has been eating about 250 grams of stones every day and has not reported any medical discomfort to date.

3. Start every day with a smile and finish it with a glass of wine.

· A glass of wine is quite edible but what about a ‘wine glass’. Well, it is edible too.

· If you disagree with me then meet this lawyer, from the state of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Dayaram Sahu.

· Dayaram has been eating tube lights, bulbs, flasks, empty glass bottles since childhood.

· He claims to enjoy the taste of glass.

4. I am Ironman.

· Iron is an essential metal for the body as the red blood cells contain hemoglobin which is made up of Heme, which is iron, and globin, which is a protein. More the hemoglobin, better the lung capacity.

· Doctors prescribe Iron tablets when a patient has low hemoglobin. But this yoga guru could not wait for doctors’ advice.

· Mr. Sailendra Singh, from the capital state of Delhi, had been eating Metal plates, shaving blades, etc. with a belief that yoga would ignite supernatural digestive powers in him to digest these metals.

· Fast forwards to nine years and Sailendra had to undergo a medical checkup.

· Doctors diagnosed him with dilutional disorder and he had to undergo surgery to get the metal out of his gut.

5. Oggy and the Cockroaches

· I am assuming that most people are aware that the roasted ground coffee beans that are readily available in the market contain remains of cockroaches. If you don’t trust me, google it.

· Anyways, what if I tell you Bear Grylls is not the only person to enjoy cockroach recipes, there is one more person in India with a palate for crunchy juicy live cockroaches.

· In the year 2005, a 25-year-old Ramesh Kumar came to light on the media for his weird fetish for cockroaches.

· So next time you go around searching for food to satisfy your midnight cravings, remember Ramesh and grab a couple of cockroaches too.

6. A Gecko a day keeps the doctor away.

· Geckos or wall Lizards are erratic, ambiguous creatures that have been creeping out people in every part of the world.

· Indians for a change also believe that witches (Daayan) morphs into lizards in the daytime and change back to their original form at night.

· But in a country where lizards are thought to invoke anxiety, lives a man who believes that he will suffer from insomnia if he is not fed at least one lizard daily.

· Mr. Kailash Bagban just can’t get enough of Lizard soup, which is one of his favorite lizard recipes. But he does not mind eating live lizards, freshly plucked from the walls, if he is not in the mood to cook.

· He claims that eating lizard started as a hobby but it has been really helpful to him from a medical perspective as he has become quite resistant to reptilian poison over the years. He is quite famously named ‘The poison man’, by the fellow villagers.

7. The reason why Medusa never came to visit India.

· Consuming Snake meat has been a tradition in many south Asian countries like Vietnam, Thailand, etc.

· Even Bear Grylls consumes snake meat often in his famous television shoe but not without cutting off the head.

· But eating live snakes, this fad has not at all normalized yet.

· Mr. Neeranjan Bhaskar, a painter from the state of Bihar has been consuming snakes from the very juvenile age of seven.

· He starts ingesting the snake from the tail portion and eats it up to the mouth.

· He claimed to have consumed over 4000 snakes in the year 2013 itself. One can only imagine the number to have reached 5 digits by now.

8. Add spice to life, quite literally.

· Do you remember how difficult it was for you to potty, the last time you filled yourself up with extra spicy food?

· Now imagine it be a daily ritual. It would be excruciatingly painful, isn’t it?

· It may be painful for others but not for Mr. Pyare Mohan, who without fail consumes 6.6 lbs. of chili daily, in the form of green chili, red chili, and red chili powder.

· Mr. Mohan believes that his hunger would not be quenched if he does not complete his daily quota of chilies.

9. Blood group — Tea positive

· India is the county of chai tea lovers. Tea is more than a beverage for Indians, it's an emotion.

· It is so strong an emotion that although Miss Pilli Devi, gave up on food at the tender age of 11 years, she could not give up on her tea.

· Miss Pilli Devi who is now 46, has not had a single grain of food for the last 35 years. But her love for tea was so immense that she could not give up on that ritual.

· She only drinks one cup of black tea every day. Doctors who have examined her have a strong opinion that no human can live without food for these many years, and they still could not figure out how Miss Pilli Devi has survived for so long.

10. Photosynthetic Human?

· Yes! I am not joking. Can you imagine someone living only on sunlight, without food or water?

· Well, there was one such man to have lived, who allegedly lived only on sunlight.

· Mr. Prahlad Jani, a yogi, who recently passed away in the year 2020 at the age of 90, claimed to be the only man to live without food or water.

· A team of 15 medical practitioners observed him under complete CCTV surveillance for 15 days and reported that he did not eat or drink anything in this time window.

· The yogi claims to not have consumed anything since 1940.
